What I had to do was create a Windows Password before I could access the fingerprint management settings; I had not been doing that before.

I uninstalled the Lenovo fingerprint software. I was able to find your Thinkpad T43p listed but found no reference to a driver for it.
I reloaded Windows 7 coprocesslr the fingerprint software stopped working. Going to User Accounts in the control panel and asking to coprocrssor fingerprints from there brings up a dialogue box saying that there’s either no reader installed or another program has control of it.
